Legacy Jewellery is a small fine-jewellery house in Abu Dhabi that makes drop earrings and rings in short runs. The pieces were good. The photographs were white-background product shots, the same as every other jeweller’s. They booked one shoot, with a week from call sheet to final files.

The challenge
A pear-cut stone is mostly reflection. On a white sweep it goes flat and grey.
Legacy had one rule: no colour correction on the stones. The stone on screen had to match the stone on the counter.

The approach
We shot among broad tropical leaves in natural light, with one model behind them. The earring is the only sharp thing in the frame.
The leaves give the stone something to reflect, so the colour you see was there on the day. Retouching stayed on skin and stray dust. The stones were left alone.
